A highly acclaimed film from Patrice Chéreau, the multiple award winning director of La Reine Margot and Intimacy, Son Frere is an extremely moving and revelatory exploration of fraternal differences, and the efforts of two men to overcome them in the face of an inevitable tragedy.
Thomas has been estranged from his gay brother Luc for years, but when he is diagnosed with a potentially fatal blood disorder he turns up on his doorstep asking for help. Luc agrees to accompany him to the hospital where, despite tests, medication, injections and even surgery the doctors seem unable to halt Thomas' decline.
Moving between the atmospheric climes of wintry Paris and summery Brittany, the fraternal relationship develops and gains strength. In time, once tied are mended and bygones addressed, Thomas and Luc realise that they are more than just brothers.
