PECCAPOD FAQs

What is it?

PeccaPOD is a DVD shop and a place to view films on-demand. Our download or better known as on VOD (Video On-Demand) are provided through our download partner filmedmedia

It is crucial that you have a high speed broadband connection (minimum 2MB) to view a standard definition VOD film in its best quality.

Our VOD service is only valid for UK and Ireland, any other countries WILL NOT be able to view the films downloaded and no refunds will be issued

What are the system requirements for download service?

You'll need to be using Microsoft XP or Vista,  Internet Explorer and Media Player 9 or higher. You'll also need a Broadband connection, ideally without download limits, of around 2MB for progressive viewing... this being an average speed. You’ll need sufficient RAM, minimum 512mb RAM and 2GB of disc space per film.

Why can’t I watch the films on demand on MAC or any other OS?

We are working closely with filmedmedia to improve our service and we aim to provide films on demand to all platforms in the very near future.

Which Internet Browser do I need to use?

We recommend Internet Explorer although our service will also work with Firefox Browser, versions 1 or 2, where you may be required to download and install Active X plugins, afterwhich you’ll need to re-start your browser.

We have, to date, had no reported issues in playing Films using the Opera Browser.

Films downloaded via Windows Explorer will usually be stored in your ‘Video’ Folder within the ‘My Documents’ folder. Films downloaded via Firefox will usually be stored straight to your desktop.

Firefox Users - please install the Firefox IE Tab to use our service within Firefox. Once installed, you simply right click your mouse on any web site/page and choose 'view page in IE Tab. Follow link below to install

Can I watch downloaded film on my TV?

If you have access to a television that has a pc output you could plug in from your desktop or laptop's hard-drive onto the TV output.

Download to Rent / Instant playback

Films on rental are available in progressive downloads which means you can start watching them straight away, or you can choose to download for later viewing.

Once downloaded, the film will be available to view on your hard drive for 5 days from the date of purchase.

During those 5 days you can watch the film as many times as you like, but at the end of that period – the file will expire and will no longer be active. We recommend that you then delete the file from your hard drive to free up disc space.

Download to Own

Once downloaded the film is yours, you own it. You can watch it as often as you like from your pc. Instant playback is not available on Download to Own

Do I have to wait for the film to download before watching it?

All our films for rental are available as progressive downloads, which means you can start watching them straight away, or you can choose to download for later viewing.

Please note that if the picture pauses and starts to re-buffer it may be because of a drop out in your connection. If you want to know your true connection speed and not just the one you are supposed to have, then just type in 'ADSL test' into your search engine and choose a source. It's free and will alert you to any issues you may have with your connection

How long does a download take?

A 90 minutes feature film takes about 60 minutes to download on an 8MB connection.

Can I fast forward or rewind?

Yes, you can once the complete file has been downloaded onto your pc.

Can I transfer my Film to another machine or device?

You cannot currently transfer to another PC.

You can transfer to any Microsoft ‘Play Ready’ portable device such as manufactured by Archos or Creative etc. You can also utilise a TV or external monitor to watch a Film by using the relevant wired or wireless connections between your PC and TV/monitor.

Other things to check if you’re having problems.

If you’re using a new PC, have you initialised the Microsoft Media Player? Simply open the player and it’ll set itself up. Check that WMV (Windows Media Video) is ticked as a valid file format within the player options. In version 11, click on the little down arrow under one of the tabs, then click on ‘more options’ and ‘file types’, making sure wma and wmv are both ticked.

Is your sound card properly set up and working? Sometimes the media won’t buffer sufficiently if there’s an issue with the sound card, as a proportion of the media is of course sound! Likewise with the Graphics, or the Video card. If you’re getting staggered vision or general playback issues it may be a case of your hardware simply not having enough processing power. Some basic on-board cards can produce poor playback.
